DevLog: Finishing Building PRISM & Scene Progress

(Don't forget to check out the Trello board for detailed progress!)

Blender Progress

As I learn more and more in Blender, I've noticed that I'm more quickly able to set-up entire environments and also create character poses. Growing a library of poses, assets, and understand the workflow better will allow even quicker outputs. While Eevee continues to be lighting fast, it is still a question whether moving forward with it is the correct action.

Scene Progress

Speaking of scenes, the particular scene that's being worked on (Chapter 1 Scene 5) is heavily involved, it has three separate "locations". Again, as assets are developed (in this particular case, the PRISM facility), developing future scenes will be quicker.

Finished

  • Designing, modeling, and texturing the external PRISM facility
  • Populating and detailing the city with buildings and environment elements
  • Parking lot dressing
    • Security gate + guard
    • Post-apocolyptic cars
  • Character poses (total of 80)

Working on

  • Final touches for the scene
    • Camera positioning
    • Lighting
  • Final renders beginning shortly (thanks to Eevee, this will be crazy fast)

Up Next

  • Rendering 80 images at 4k
  • Sound effects
  • Music

Looking Ahead

I'm concerned what the next scene is going to require: a full interior creation of the PRISM facility. This could last many many weeks, if not months. It's very possible that this would be something that is created as we go and as you explore more and more of the facility.

While mastering Blender's lighting system remains an exciting challenge, each completed asset brings us closer to faster, more efficient production. The foundations being laid now will support increasingly rapid development moving forward.

Don't forget to check out the progress on the Trello progress board.
